If I'm being honest, being a professional photographer has been, and will forever be, my dream career. I get to satisfy not only my creativity by creating some amazing art for my clients, but I get to work on aspects of my business that are more left-brained (like finances and spreadsheets. yum. ).
But despite this, I'm a very REAL photographer, you could say. I run around and get out of breath, I will let your dog lick my face and tackle me to the ground (happened, true story), I trip over air, I change my mind fast, there are so many things that happen during a session that keeps me moving. With that in mind, I want to share with you three things that are totally going to happen when we work together, and it's completely okay to laugh at them (because I always do!).
1. I will trip over a large, obvious rock (slightly larger than this one).
This happens, every day of my life. I spend a lot of time finding the perfect angle and direction, the perfect light reflection, all of these details you can't necessarily see, and I will take three steps backwards and trip on a rock the size of Mount Rushmore. You're going to laugh, and maybe feel bad, and maybe be a little concerned, but this happens ALL THE TIME. I put all of my energy and focus into making your images as gorgeous as you've ever dreamed, so sometimes I forget that I actually do interact with the things around me. I'm always okay. I always laugh. And for this reason, I carry "large rock" insurance.
2. I will tell you that you're gorgeous a million times over.
If you're anything like me, sometimes compliments can be tough to take. So many of us have been trained to believe that we're never good enough for those around us, and we always have something to change or alter about ourselves. I can't count how many times a senior or bride says, "I don't like this" or "I have this that's sort of ugly" or "can you make me look like this" and while I completely understand why they think those things, I never agree. But let me tell you a little secret: all of their portrait dreams came true, and I didn't change a thing about how I photographed them. The way we laugh together, adventure together, and share this place in your life brings out so much inner beauty that you probably completely over looked about yourself. Every time I click the shutter the light comes down in a way that just makes you SHINE. And I'll tell you you're gorgeous every. single. time. And after a while you'll think I'm lying. And I'm not. Not even a little bit.
3. I will get red-faced with excitement.
Once we're done with the photographing part, I like to talk about what your image reveal looks like - and that's my favorite part. It's where I unveil to you the resulting images from our awesome time together. I'll be so excited to tell you about it, I'll get long-winded, and I'll lose my breath, and I'll get so red-faced you'll probably think I'm going to pass out. But it's just in excitement! I've been working on slowing down and using fewer words, but it's so hard to contain the way I feel about presenting you the art we've worked so hard on. Some people cry! Some people laugh! Some people give me a very forceful and thankful hug! Some seniors and brides bring every single member of their family and I LOVE that! I'm excited about it, and you will be too.
There are of course lots of other things that will happen, but these three have become true tradition. I'd love to help you craft your dream session, whatever it may be. Hit that contact button and let's connect today, okay?
